Order of Operations Calculator (PEMDAS)
Enter an expression using brackets ( ), ×, ÷, + and −. The calculator solves it one operation at a time, in the correct PEMDAS / BODMAS order, and explains each step.
What is PEMDAS / BODMAS?
The order tells you which part of an expression to solve first.
What does PEMDAS stand for?
Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (left to right), then Addition and Subtraction (left to right). BODMAS is the same rule (Brackets, Orders, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction).
Do I multiply before I divide?
No — multiplication and division have equal priority. You work them left to right in the order they appear. Same for addition and subtraction.
