What does "regrouping" mean?
Regrouping is exchanging between place-value columns. In addition you carry when a column totals 10 or more; in subtraction you borrow from the next column when the top digit is too small. It's the same idea as "carrying" and "borrowing".
How do I add with carrying?
Add each column from the right. If a column makes 10 or more, write the ones digit and carry the tens digit to the next column on the left. This tool shows each carried digit in blue above the column.
How do I subtract with borrowing?
Work right to left. If the top digit is smaller than the bottom digit, borrow 1 from the next column left (it becomes 10 more in the current column). The tool marks each borrow in red so you can follow it.
